Honor Magic 2 leaks online, confirms 95% screen-to-body ratio and graphene battery

The Honor Magic by Huawei was introduced as a concept smartphone about two years ago. Recent rumors claim that Huawei is planning to roll out a new model with the monicker. According to latest teasers, the Honor Magic 2 has a 95 percent screen-to-body ratio display.

In addition, the Honor Magic 2 also features a graphene battery. Although Samsung had planned to release this technology for its  consumer flagship device either in 2019 or 2020, it appears that Huawei will be the first to make it available on the second generation Honor Magic device.

The Honor Magic 2 is expected to feature a 6.39-inch OLED screen offering 2K resolution, resembling the Vivo Nex without side bezels and pop-up camera module. At the back, Honor Magic 2 could have three rear cameras similar to the Huawei P20 Pro, making it the first Honor device to get this configuration – 24-megapixel RGB sensor + 16-megapixel monochrome sensor +8 megapixel telephoto sensor.

Device manufacturers are increasingly looking at graphene batteries, ever since the recent incidences involving lithium-ion batteries. However, beyond few uses, we haven’t seen any real products meant for mass production.

According to Huawei, its own graphene battery technology storage capacity is only 45 percent of a lithium battery with the same capacity. What works in favor of graphene batteries though, is the rapid charging speed. For example, a 3,000mAh battery could charge in about 12 minutes. More importantly, the life of a graphene battery is approximately double of a typical lithium-ion battery.

Huawei’s Honor Magic lineup is a concept that has been targeted at the Chinese market. There’s no clarity if this would be the case with the Honor Magic 2 as well. The device could release towards the end of this year.
